Where to go next?
I am already looking past this summer’s road trip and thinking about where Mark and I should go next year, preferably in the first few months of 2009. We have long lists of where we would like to go; it’s just a matter of prioritizing and getting the most for our money. Last year when we were deciding where to go this year, I started by searching for affordable airfare to various places and that is how we wound up in Costa Rica. I am taking the same approach this time and here are the places I’m considering: Curacao; Cape Verde; Ecuador; Lithuania; South Africa; and, of course, Italy (I was surprised to find round trip airfare to Rome for just over $700).
So, any suggestions??

After reading your article I thought deeply about a destination for you in the U.S.A. or other places. My first choice is, Bettendorf Iowa, second is Italy, third is London England, fourth is Barcelona Espana, fourth is Bermuda, fifth is Santa Fe,N.M. sixth is Las Cruces,N.M. seventh and final pick is Osaka Japan. If you disagree with my first six picks, then you can travel to Osaka and look for your twin siblings while enjoying your trip and make sure you take pictures of you and them together that will astonish us.

This is going to sound like a weird suggestion, but my husband and I went to South Dakota last year and saw Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, the Badlands, Custer State Park, Deadwood, and there was a ton more to go see but we were only there for 5 days. Was one of my most enjoyable vacations, surprisingly. Lots of outdoor stuff to do, which was fun, and from your Costa Rica blog think you’d appreciate.
If you want to go out of the country, I’m suggesting stay south, like maybe Argentina, Curacao, Brazil. The Euro makes everything so much more expensive. If you like Europe as a destination, try Spain. Loved Spain.

Nicole, thanks for the comment & for the suggestions. I do not think your South Dakota suggestion is weird! I’ve actually gone through South Dakota a few times, never stopping for more than a day at a time, and I’ve always thought it’s such a beautiful place. I’d definitely go back. In fact, due to rising fuel costs & hence rising air travel costs, Mark and I did briefly talk about road tripping again next year, this time heading West. So, it’s definitely an option.
As for leaving the country, you’re right on by suggesting South America. We’re considering that, as well. I’m still kind of stuck on Curacao but, because it’s part of the Netherlands, the currency is the Euro so the island is really expensive. *sigh* Maybe I’ll get there one day
