What in the world…?!

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

Dear Uncle Lou,
What on God’s green earth is happening with the Cubs?! They are self-destructing! Less than a week to go in the season, with a two game lead in the division, is not a good time to start slacking! And I’ll be real honest, Unc: the way this team has been playing lately, they don’t deserve to make the playoffs.

Yours in frustration,
Francesca

Today is what I call a good day

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

The Cubs won to maintain their hold on first place in the National League Central and my Michigan State Spartans stomped on the so-called “Fighting” Irish of Notre Dame to keep them winless this season. And just when I thought the day couldn’t get any better, the Milwaukee Brewers lost to the Atlanta Braves, thereby increasing the first place Cubs’ lead over the Brewers to 2 1/2 games. Ah, yes, October is nearing… my favorite time of year.

Oh, just one more thing about my Spartans beating up on the Irish… as I’ve said before, now that MSU has won against Notre Dame, my Spartans can lose the rest of their games this season and it wouldn’t upset me one bit. I don’t care what their record is so long as they beat Notre Dame.

EDIT: I received this “joke” via email. It is related to the topic of this post so I had to share it… mwahahahaha!

A seven-year-old boy was at the center of a courtroom drama
today when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of
him. The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the
judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with child
custody law and regulations requiring that family unity be maintained
to the degree possible.

The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt
beat him more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her.
When the judge then suggested that he live with his
grandparents, the boy cried out that they also beat him.

After considering the remainder of the immediate family and
learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among
them, the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to
propose who should have custody of him. After two recesses to check legal
references and confer with child welfare officials, the judge granted
temporary custody to the University of Notre Dame, whom the boy firmly
believes is not capable of beating anyone.

Dear Uncle Lou, Since we're heading down the stretch and it's going to be a tight race to the end to win the NL Central, do you think it's about time we got a bona fide closer? This Ryan Dempster ... [Continue reading this entry]

So how about those five cent beers?

Sunday, June 24th, 2007
Before the Cubs / White Sox series last month, and before the cross-town classic in previous seasons, McNally's pub advertised five cent beers if the Cubs swept the Sox. I'm wondering why that same message wasn't displayed on ... [Continue reading this entry]

Stupid pub I will never frequent

Thursday, June 7th, 2007
On my way into work every day, I pass McNally's pub on South Western Avenue, just south of 111th Street. A typical South Side Irish bar, they have taken to displaying anti-Cubs messages on their sign outside. [Continue reading this entry]

Did I call it or what?

Sunday, June 3rd, 2007
I asked Uncle Lou for some fireworks, and fireworks is what we got! Uncle Lou went absolutely ballistic during yesterday's game after Angel Pagan was called out trying to advance to third base on a passed ball. We ... [Continue reading this entry]

It’s a damn shame

Dear Uncle Lou, What in God's name happened in the dugout today? Dear Lord... and what is up with Carlos Zambrano? He is out of control - literally! It's no secret that he wants to be traded; I ... [Continue reading this entry]

I bet you had no idea…

Thursday, May 17th, 2007
Dear Uncle Lou, I bet you had no idea when you took the job as Cubs' skipper that this team really is cursed. I bet you had no idea just how much the bullpen sucks. I bet you had ... [Continue reading this entry]

Please don’t take this the wrong way…

Monday, April 16th, 2007
Dear Uncle Lou, It appears that my father has a completely hetero man-crush on you. Every time you are on TV, we all have to stop whatever it is we are doing to pay attention to your every word and ... [Continue reading this entry]
