Folinazzo

Recently I have received comments on my Flickr pictures and Almost Italian from distant family members. This leads me to believe that there are more of you Folinazzos out there reading this blog and viewing our pictures, and we think that is wonderful! That was our main goal when we started this blog almost four years ago. Felicia and I, and the rest of our immediate family, are very proud of our heritage and of our family; we want to keep in touch with those of you whom we see all the time, and those of you we haven’t even met yet. So, since we know you’re out there, send us your stories, pictures, and ideas to share with the rest. This blog isn’t just for Felicia and me, it is for Folinazzos everywhere.

So our blog’s three year anniversary came and went on March 3rd and no one noticed, myself included. The reason could very well be that I was a little excited about and preoccupied by the fact that I was in Arizona and about to attend a Cubs spring training game against the White Sox. In addition, as that day wore on, I became slightly inebriated at the ballgame and by that time, the blog was the furthest thing from my mind. But today I had some time to myself and I have been sober, and it just hit me. I knew we started the blog in March of 2004 but I could not remember the exact date. Then I got to thinking about what was happening in my life, and in the world, three years ago, and how it compares to now. Let’s see: in 2004, the Cubs stunk; in 2007, we are again hopeful but realistic. In 2004, I was a graduate student; in 2007, I guess I am technically still a graduate student, even though I haven’t taken a class in over a year but I still do not have my Master’s. In 2004, I had traveled to three continents; in 2007, the number is now up to five. In 2004, Mark and I were living in a three-bedroom apartment closer to downtown with no parking and no backyard; in 2007, we have a five-bedroom home with a two-car garage and a big backyard. In 2004, Dad was living around the corner; in 2007, he is living on the opposite end of the country. I could go on and on but I think the point is clear: much has changed while much has remained the same. But, my goodness, how the time flies.
