Blackhawks to play outdoor game at Wrigley

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

This is the best news ever!! The Blackhawks reportedly will play an outdoor, non-exhibition game (meaning it will count in the regular season standings) against the Detroit Red Wings on January 1, 2009, at Wrigley Field. How cool is that?! My first love, the Blackhawks, playing hockey in my personal cathedral, Wrigley Field. When I heard the news, I started screaming and jumping up and down like a five-year-old who’d just won the Grand Prize Game. This past New Year’s Day when Mark and I watched the Buffalo Sabres play the Pittsburgh Penguins in an outdoor game in Buffalo, New York, we both said that if the Blackhawks ever did the same thing here in Chicago, we would definitely be there! That plan is still in place. I don’t care how much we have to spend for tickets; we will be there! And if the news couldn’t get any better…. I heard on Channel 7 news yesterday that there is talk of playing a second outdoor hockey game at Wrigley on January 2nd. It would be a NCAA college hockey game. The teams mentioned were Notre Dame and – are you ready?? MICHIGAN STATE!!

Oh.My.God.
