It’s official: Mark & I are going to Costa Rica! We just purchased our tickets tonight for a trip in January. Why we did we book flights so far in advance? Because they were ridiculously cheap! And because I need something to look forward to. The last few months of this year are going to be hell for me and, come December, I will be finished with grad school, so this trip is part graduation present for me. More importantly, though, this will be the first “real” trip Mark and I will be taking together since our honeymoon! And it’s going to be Mark’s first international travel experience. Should be interesting…

We’ve already started talking about where we’d like to go and what we’d like to do while in Costa Rica. Anyone have any suggestions? We know we’d like to do some kayaking, fly fishing, hiking, and volcano-watching. Keep up with us as we plan our itinerary!

Taylor Street Festa Italiana is taking place August 10-12, on Taylor Street between Ashland and Loomis. I have been looking forward to this event since I first heard about it a few months ago. It will be nice to have a festival in the neighborhood again. The last one I remember is The Touch of Italy, circa 1990. It is my hope that many of the neighborhood’s long-time residents, and those that have moved away, are in attendance. We need a show of force to prove that we still care about and love our neighborhood. Moreover, there is a great entertainment line-up, including one of my favorite bands, Old 97s, who will be playing on Saturday night, August 11th, at 8:00.
