When I say Nomar you say CUBS!
Saturday, July 31st, 2004We got Nomar!
Announced an hour after Major League Baseball’s 3pm (Central Time) trade deadline, the Cubs acquired shortstop Nomar Garciaparra from the Boston Red Sox. It was a four-way deal that landed Cubs shortstop Alex Gonzalez in Montreal. I am thrilled that Nomar is now a Cub but I am VERY sad that Gonzo is gone, and gone to a really sucky team like the Expos. I know a lot of the Cub faithful still blame Gonzo for the Cubs losing game 6 of last year’s playoff series against the Marlins (he screwed up a potential double play right after the Bartman debacle), but still there is a soft spot in my heart for that guy. I wish him well.
So tomorrow’s game against the Phillies will be extra exciting: we will all welcome Nomar with open arms while watching and praying for Greg Maddux’ 300th career victory. Let’s go Cubbies!
